Time changes everything!

The clock is ticking and this little man is growing by the second. Not quick enough for his daddy and me though. William has truly been such a beautiful and wonderful baby but his sleep habits and crying are enough to make us go crazy!!!!! In fact we have gone crazy many a night. Sleep deprivation is one of the worst plagues of early parenthood and it has been ruling our household for 5 long months. I know everyone will say, "oh but it will be gone so soon" "enjoy those early years" "treasure that time" and all sorts of other well meant phrases...but time could not go faster! When you have not had a straight night of sleep in 5 months you are ready for your sweet little angel baby to grow up a bit. I know every phase of his life (and all our children) will have its challenges, but this early stage is one of the most time consuming, draining and absolute hardest things I've ever done in my life!

Besides the fact that William is the most exhausting creature on the planet right now here are some things I absolutely love about this boy of mine:
- his smile is always ready and it is perfect! Really perfect! It melts my heart!
- he loves to blow his lips together tons
- looking in his new mirror toy is a favorite place to chat away with his new friend ;)
- he's mastered rolling
- loves loves to kick his legs
- has the most adorable and handsome eyes
- can talk super loud and for quite some time
- loves watching his mobile and sister
- follows his daddy everywhere with his eyes
- can be stiff as a board and is super duper strong
- sits up in his bumbo seat
- loves to snuggle (love this most of the time, except for when it's every two hours at night, like right now)
- is an excellent eater
- loves to chat and look back and forth between mom and dad at night
- takes nursing, a binki and and bottle (thankfully)
- has the cutest little voice that loves to make noise
- enjoys grabbing all sorts of things and chewing on even more!

William is an amazing little boy and I can't wait to see what is in store for him in his life! His nursery theme is "Be brave little one" and I think he truly is. He is my little brave boy. I love you to the moon and back William and hope you will know that all your life. You are a treasure!

Above is one of the precious moments parents like us adore...a sleeping baby!

Williams 4 Months

This little man is 4 months old (yesterday), and we are amazed at how much he's grown. He is a tall little man! He is really quite good at tummy time, enjoys eating & eating and eating, loves to smile lots, watches his sister with a close eye and loves to be held. Sleep is still a bit of a struggle and spitting up. But he's working on those with his mama. We love and adore our Sir William and the joy he brings into our home!

A favorite thing he does is while he's eating he'll take a little pause give a huge grin and then keep eating. It's like he's giving his mama a big thank you for his food. His grins are heavenly and huge! They are the happiest thing to see!

We celebrated his marker by making pumpkin pie pastries. They were quite delectable and a favorite of Mister James and Baby Jane. I love cooking special things for this sweet little family of mine. That is something I really look forward to doing with my kiddos; cooking in the kitchen with them. I let Jane help with a few things already, but really cooking with me is going to be awesome!!

Gratitude #8

Gratitude #8. Wee William.

Do you notice something in all these photos of Sir William? Yep. He's smiling in all of them. William is a smiler!!!!! :) :) :). He loves to be close and a part of things. There is never a moment he does not enjoy holding a finger or riding in his carrier and being with the family. He's only 3 months and already wants to be a part of everything we do. He loves his hands and binki and enjoys sucking on anything! His little legs are always kicking and dancing away. And he is quick to forgive when his sister bangs him up.

William is a true boy and enjoys eating, burping and tooting ;). We are so happy to have William in our family and know that we have so much to learn from him. It's exciting anticipating what he'll be like and what his personality will be. He already seems like a very tender and thoughtful boy, like his dad. I am grateful for this little man in my life and am so very thankful "he's here" in our family!!

***I quoted the words "he's here" because that is apparently what I said over and over after he was born. James told me it was so cute and funny that I just kept repeating that phrase :).

3 Months...and ticking!

Our little man is 3 months old today! What!? How the time flies. Each month I am taking a photo with this clock to watch his growth. The hands of the clock will show what month he's in. It's so crazy how when you add another little person to your family it's like they've always been there. I feel like we've always had William and yet when I see the clock ticking and showing we've had him 3 months I feel like it went by so fast! We love this happy and wild little guy. He sure loves smiling, had rolled over once, is extremely strong, loves to be close to his mommy and hold his daddy's finger, loves his Sissie, enjoys looking at light reflections, can be super loud and talkative, has a toot factory and likes to hold in his poops, loves watching fingers and sucking on his hands, he seems to really enjoy being outside, lets us know when he's upset, has kicking frog legs, and is just a joy. We love him very much and can't wait to continue to watch him grow and develop.

Little Man; Sir William

This sweet little man is growing so quickly. The first few months of a little ones life go very fast and especially for the mom. It's a whirlwind of recovery, getting to know each other, sleepless nights, deep love, and so many tender memories. As I sit and feed William I think about what a strong and funny boy he is.

His first few months were wild and he was a trooper through the thick and thin of craziness. He has a few newer habits that just make him so much fun. He LOVES to smile. Oftentimes we'll just look over and he's grinning away, other times it's when we tickle his cheek, he loves when I tickle him with my hair and he already enjoys peek-a-boo. It is so fun to see his big gummy happy grins! They truly are what make a mothers heart melt. He's also laughed a few times :), which is amazing for a two month old I feel. They were short little sniggers but sniggers none the less. He loves to hold hands and often has his wrapped around daddy's finger. His legs are like a little frogs, kicking all the time. He just has so many little habits already that I love and adore.

My favorite of all, especially cause he's a boy, is his ability to really burst a burp and his many popcorn toots. When this little guy finally decides to let a burp out it can be quite the blow. They sometimes surprise Mister James and I and we'll all have a good chuckle. And then his tooty toot toots! He is like his sister, and daddy; gassy!! It's hilarious to be feeding him and feeling and hearing his little firework factory going. Or changing him and seeing his whole body scrunch up to let one blow. He's quite the boy already.

We love our sweet boy so much. He has been strong from day one and a joy to watch grow. I'm pretty sure boys and girls are already born with those pretty innate and specific qualities that each sex have. They are divinely inherited and I'm so thankful to see them so early in both my children. Jane already has such motherly traits of tender care. As she rocks, swaddles and diapers play babies, gives lots of hugs and kisses, enjoys helping William and making sure he's ok. And William already has a strong will, an incredibly strong body and a hunger that beats all. Many traits are shared between men and women but I truly believe that some are inherent to a man and some to a woman! That is what makes us unique and important.

I love my little man Sir William and my miss Jane.

Family Time = My favorite time!

Tonight we had dinner outside pit style! My FAVORITE! We roasted some Italian chicken sausages that were so good, made s'mores, and had grapes and veggies. It was a delicious evening of being together! I love being outside and especially when it's with my favoritest people in the world!

Jane was an excellent kindling finder. She got pinecones, dry grass and twigs to help daddy start the fire. Mister James is a pro fire builder. Little William loves being outside and enjoyed some good vitamin D sunshine. He's sure getting to know the world around him and is just adorable. He has a great grin and inquisitive eyes, I love watching him look around and listening to his cooing.

Lately we have been trying to take a really good long walk at the end of our day to tire energy ball Jane out. It's been a really special time when we do it. Tonight we did our little round. We cross over a canal on the way and throw rocks in it to make big splashes and then we run through a huge field to the playground at our neighborhood elementary. It's quite the distance for Jane's little legs but she goes the whole distance! She and William really are so amazing. Children are incredible!! They learn so much, have incredible amounts of patience, and teach us the most important things. How grateful I am for my little family and all the wonderful special times we share together. Life is made up of moments, tons of them, and these are the best ones!

First Baths

William had his first bath finally today! He was ready to be wet again. This dry Idaho air doesn't do good on new heavenly skin ;). He really enjoyed it other than being super hungry so was kind of weirded out to be put into liquid instead of drinking it. He was so cute he started to suck on his hand really loud because he was so ready to eat!

First baths are special here in our home, because they don't get one at the birth center or the day their born. So, their first bath literally is with us at home. It's fun to see how they react and to snuggle them up in a towel afterward. Washing their soft skin and bald heads. Hearing the trickle of water from the cloth. There is so much I love about a baby in a bath!

1 Week of Life

Wow. How quickly life happens when you're in love! Our little man turned a week old today. It's hard to believe that it's already been a full week! It feels like just yesterday James and I were at the birth center in awe we had a baby boy.

This little man has captured our hearts. Some fun things we've learned about him:
- he's a Toot-Meister! He has lots and lots of gas and always has a rumbly to surprise us.
- he loves to be held and be close to us
- he is such a good baby and doesn't cry too much, just when he really needs something (like milk, a bounce, a diaper change or some gas drops)
- he loves looking to light, and has such a strong neck
- he's a little boxer, his arms are super strong and he keeps them up to his face.
- he can make some reallllly great faces!
- he loves to eat!!

We are so grateful this little adorable man is a part of our family!!!!!!

An Addendum to Birth

There are still so many special thoughts and feelings about Williams birth that I need to put down so I don't forget. So this post is dedicated to the little moments and details.

Our birth team was really James, William and I. I remember, even while in the last stages of labor thinking, "Man this is basically just James and I doing this! And baby boy on the other side." This was such a neat thought to me that we were already being a team even before little William entered the world. Trusting your body, your baby and your spouse really is so key in a natural birth! There is no other way to get you through it. But then we did have our great team of midwives there to make sure we were all safe as well. They really don't step in too much, only to monitor baby's heartbeat and make sure he's doing alright, and then they don't reallllly step in till the very end of pushing. They make sure baby is coming out safely and mama is not hyperventilating ;). I am so grateful for James. In both my babies births he's been right at my head letting me use him as support through the whole process. With not having a Doula this time I really needed him to be extra supportive, loving and strong.

One funny thing I forgot to write in Williams birth story was the wild whirlwind the morning of his birth. Just that evening we had driven all the way to Ashton ID with a trailer to get an outdoor table set from my brother and sister in law who are moving. I picked raspberries and watched Jane while Mister James loaded it all up and then I drove all the way home. We decided we'd unload it al. In the morning so we left it all hooked up. So while I was going through my early morning contractions James had to unload everything and go return the trailer to our sweet friends who let us borrow it. That was kind of a quiet testing moment of my strength because contractions were getting harder and I didn't want to be alone. But it strengthened my understanding of patience and longsuffering and my love for James. He had to load up the car, make all the phone calls and get us to Rigby safely. Maybe this was also a big reminder to always finish a project through ;) ALL the way.

At the end stages of labor there was a point when I felt the strong pushing urges and I remember James saying, "stay relaxed just breath through it." And he said I responded very firmly, "no, I need to push." This is a neat moment to me because a woman's body is built for birth, to know how to get her baby here is instinctual. Women really are not taught to trust in their bodies and the great capabilities they hold. Throughout ALL stages of motherhood trust in your instincts, listen to your baby and keep faith in your team!!!

Another special thing I hope to keep up with all the births of my children is thanking the team! With both births I have James "Daddy Doritos" and then made little "thank you's" for our midwives. This time round I gave them candles and little notepads to tell them thank you for helping us on this bright day (literally) bringing William into the world. I strongly believe in thanking people and want my children to also know how important that is. At our week appointment our head midwife gave me a big hug and said thanks back to me and made my day. Oh little thank you's go a long way!!

When William came out into the world with that final push it felt like he was a rocket hitting the earth. He shot out (or at least at that moment that's what it felt like) and was perfect. When the midwives put him up to my tummy and chest he was so calm. He seemed so mature and grown up from the moment we met him. The sweetest thing was how incredibly strong his neck was and how he wobbled his head about to look right up at me!!!! Just a few minutes old (out of the womb) and he was using his muscles to find his mama. It was so touching to look into his clear precious eyes and know that he knew, I'm his mama!

He was so good with his new baby exam. So still and calm. We so enjoyed those first few hours with just him at the birth center. He has a very calm and beautiful spirit about him. We are so thankful he is our son!

When we got home with William our sweet baby Jane was with a neighbor. We got a little more settled and when they dropped her off it was really special to have her meet her little brother and to be honored with some big sister items. She sweetly waved at her brother and kept saying baby. This first week of him being in our home has been wonderful and so very fast! Jane has been amazing with the change. She has been so patient with my recovery and with the big difference in not seeing me as much. I bought her a special chair and sidewalk chalk to celebrate this new stage of big sister and she loves them! James has been playing outside with the chalk with her and she loves sitting in her green chair! She's had a lot of one on one time with her dada, but she's starting to feel off schedule and needing mama a bit! So needless to say it's starting to get a little hard, so we're glad Grammys on her way today!
