Today marks 14 years since the U.S. soil was attacked and 1,000's of lives were lost. Many people look back and remember where they were and how they felt when this drastic event occurred. I was in an early morning seminary class where we study from the scriptures when news trickled in that this had happened. At first I was a little confused and just thought that it was a sad event but not a big one. I had never even heard of the Workd Trade Centers and didn't know how serious this was. Then to find out what hey were and the huge planes that hit them, then to hear another plane went down at the pentagon and one in a field in Pennsylvania it was shocking. As a little girl I remember the photos that would get printed in the Seattle Times each morning and feeling a sadness for what had happened.
At a young age I grew a great love for this country and the red, white and blue! I felt a strong national pride for the freedoms we are so blessed with. So to see such a horrendous and wicked act attacking those freedoms and this great nation really affected me. There is great evil in this world, and GREAT goodness to. I think of the firefighters and rescue teams, the brave souls on the plane that went down in PA, the families who lost loved ones that day, the people who served tirelessly to make sure help was given...they all need to be remembered!
Remember is such a powerful word to me. In scripture it is always used in a way to encourage one to remember the past, remember who they are or remember an important event/truth. The dictionary defines it this way:
-have in or be able to bring to one's mind an awareness of (someone or something that one has seen, known, or experienced in the past).
I pray that each of us, no matter where we were that day, even if you weren't born yet, that we remember 9/11. It is so important to not forget the past and to learn from it. May we all remember to protect freedom and honor those who fight for it!
