Are you a Zombie?

So this is a really random post title, especially because I am one who is not into the zombie movies, shows, apocalypse and whatever else is zombie popular right now. I've watched one with Mr James (cause you know, as wives we do that, and hey he watches all my Jane Austen's and Musicals). And after watching I still didn't get sucked into the craze our Zombie obsessions. However, last night in the three hours of sleep I got, I had a nightmare about Zombies.

It was a really frightening dream. Here it is, all I can remember: James and I were gathered together with a huge crowd. It was a mandatory political meeting that we were pretty much forced to be at. They gathered us all into a big tent and had us all sit on mats. Hundreds of people filled this huge canvas tent and we were all being watched by government personnel. Then a giant screen rolled down and a speaker said, " There are three stages we are going to take you through. They are very easy and we need to make sure you make it to step three..." Then a video of Mozart music came on, but it had dub step sounds added into all his pieces. This was now ALL music. Classical, country, folk, alternative, rock...all of it now had dub step. So, step #1 was to make sure all music was loud, that it had constant heavy beats and that you believed that was the only kind of music. Step #2 was learning the dance moves that accompanied this type of music. And then Step #3 was to give us all a shots that turned us into zombies. As Step #1 began James and I were discussing how we needed to escape. As we ran towards the canvas tent edge to get out I awoke...

This may seam like a weird thing to write about and a silly dream. And maybe it is/was. But when I woke up and told James about it his first response was, "Well I guess the worlds to step three almost." And that got us to talking. There is such a craze for loud and inappropriate music. Do we listen to the words, the values of these so called "Hits?" They mostly all are immoral. They all are noisy. They all kind of become the same. Then, do we notice the music video dancing. Do we care how our children dance at school/church dances? Do we make our lives imitate the popular culture of our time?

We really do chameleon what we hear, watch and spend time on. Is it good? Is it enriching our world? Is it instilling us with values that will lift society or bring it down? There is great importance in not becoming a "zombie" society that feeds off of the media and societal fads. Society needs to remember the importance of being still. The crucial importance of good music. The severity of inappropriate images. The need for a higher way of thinking and working hard.

There is so much good in the world. I'm grateful for that good. I hold onto that good. I pray for more good. I strive to be good...and when I fall short I realize how easy it can be to get sucked into the "what's popular." Strive to watch yourself, cause this world needs more thinkers, more doers, more modesty, more caring, more of all that is good!
